Classic Holiday Movies
“It came without ribbons. It came without bows. It came without packages, boxes, or bags. Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.” – The Grinch
A famous quote from an unlikely character frames Christmas and all holidays perfectly. There is a time after wrapping presents, singing carols, baking favorite foods, and decorating homes we simply need to relax and feel the joy of the season… time to binge on movie classics.

Grab a cup of hot chocolate and lose yourself in a land possible only in movies. The earliest holiday classic dates back to 1947 when Miracle on 34th Street starred Edmund Gwenn, who believed he truly was Kris Kringle. Who wouldn’t believe in Santa Claus after losing themselves in this classic?
Animation was brought to television in the 1960s and Baby Boomers lay prone on floors watching Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Frosty the Snowman… all on small, often black and white televisions.
Comedies based on real-life evolved in the ‘80s and ‘90s when Christmas with the Kranks, Home Alone, and Christmas Vacation debuted. Bigger screens, better sound effects and the opportunity to buy a movie, bring it home and watch with all the lights out started to change the world of film. Microwave popcorn helped make viewing almost like being in a theater.
Christmas is the biggest movie-going day of the year. Seniors and loved ones find reserving rows of theater seats for families to watch holiday movies an excellent gift. A few films are designed for every viewer’s age level, The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Elf, and The Polar Express. If cost is prohibitive (thirty-six cents in 1947 and over nine dollars today) technology has created the possibility of streaming and bingeing from wherever we are. Baby Boomers and their parents are experiencing the wonderful world of cinema, which is a Segway to… the most famous classic of all, It’s a Wonderful Life starring Jimmy Stewart.
Bridge to Better Living would like to choose a favorite movie, but each of us are different, just like our clients. We care about pleasing Seniors and their loved ones by practicing one-on-one assistance and guidance. Bridge to Better Living, using Placement with Passion as their motto, wants everyone to have “A Wonderful Life.” We will even provide the popcorn.
