Molly is blind in one eye, can’t see out of the other (well, maybe shadows), is stone deaf after multiple years of being told one word commands, and exhibits traits of dementia. Just the other day Molly landed on her head when missing the front step, resulting in a comical somersault. She shook her embarrassment off (literally) and then went her merry way.
If we thought about it, some lessons are to be learned from these faithful companions.
Consider the following:
- BALANCED DIET
- STRUCTURED LIFE STYLE
- EXERCISE
- SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
- ANNUAL PHYSICALS
- CURRENT MEDICATIONS AND VACCINATIONS
- ACCEPTANCE OF LIMITATIONS
- GOOD GROOMING
- PRAISE
- LOVE
Molly is a tough old cur; she’s stood her own a long time, made her own decisions, and just recently moved to her final “apartment” in the basement. She is worthy of admiration. Herein exists an interesting comparison from a four legged creature.
Advancing age may bring challenges, but attitude is truly the secret to survival.
Molly knows her limits, although every once in a while she seems to think she’s a young pup and circles the house at Nascar speed. It’s okay…we all love her. Molly enjoys the care she receives, accepts a little help now and then and will live several more years as a result.
Molly made her choices. Perhaps it’s time for you or someone you love to make yours.
